For children with autism and Down syndrome, communication may take different forms, and each child has their own pace of learning, expressing emotions, and engaging with the world.

A conversation, a simple action, or even an everyday choice may require more time, patience, and companionship. Their emotions, responses, and ways of expressing themselves are not always easy to control or understand. Compared with other children, they often need greater understanding and acceptance, as well as more opportunities to experience real-life situations, interact with society, participate in everyday activities, and express themselves.

This is why the meaning of charity goes beyond giving. It is about getting closer, listening, understanding, and walking alongside those who need support.

Recently, Flyking traveled to Yanji and surrounding areas in Jilin Province for the “Love Without Borders · Caring for Children with Autism and Down Syndrome” charity initiative. Led by Mr. Ma Wei, Chairman of the Aiman Tianxia Foundation, the Flyking team visited three “Star Homes” in Dunhua, Hunchun, and Yanji.

Through on-site visits, conversations, interactive activities, donations, and real-life experiences, the team engaged directly with the children, their families, foundation staff, and volunteers. The journey provided a closer look at the daily lives of children with special needs, the challenges faced by their families, and the dedication of those who support them every day.

• Dunhua: Stepping Into Their Everyday Lives

The first stop of the journey was the Star Home in Dunhua.

This is a place where children learn, train, communicate, and spend much of their daily time, while also serving as an important source of support for families accompanying their children through their growth.

During the visit, the Flyking team spoke with foundation staff and parents to better understand the children’s learning and training, as well as the practical challenges families encounter in their daily lives.

In response to the needs of the Star Home, Flyking donated African drums, water bottles, toys, and other supplies to enrich the children’s learning and recreational activities.

The team also took part in activities with the children. Together with 15 families, team members participated in handicrafts and drawing activities. Through these simple and relaxed interactions, the children were able to express their interests and creativity in ways that felt natural to them.

For the children, handicrafts and drawing are more than just activities. They provide opportunities to express interests, develop creativity, and communicate with others.

For us, these face-to-face interactions transformed what we had previously understood in principle into something much more tangible and personal.

The value of charity becomes visible through such genuine moments of connection.

• Hunchun: Becoming Part of Their Everyday Lives

Leaving Dunhua, the Flyking charity team continued to the Star Home in Hunchun.

Here, we gained a deeper understanding of the children’s needs in their daily training and activities. Flyking donated sensory integration training equipment to support their ongoing development and rehabilitation activities.

The team also spent time with the children and their families playing games and making dumplings.

There was no elaborate program or carefully staged interaction. Everyone simply gathered together, preparing the dough, rolling wrappers, and making dumplings while naturally sharing the experience.

These seemingly ordinary moments brought a special sense of authenticity to the journey.

The children were able to participate, try things with their own hands, and complete their part at their own pace. Meanwhile, we moved beyond being visitors and became participants in their everyday lives.

Sometimes, meaningful support can be found in the simplest moments of doing things together.

• Yanji: Learning Through Real-Life Experiences

The third stop was the Star Home in Yanji.

This time, the team placed greater emphasis on everyday life skills and real-world experiences.

Flyking Senior Vice President Fred and HR Director Lily each accompanied a child on a visit to a supermarket. From selecting products and making decisions to completing the purchase, the children experienced the process of shopping independently in a real-life environment.

Through this experience, they had the opportunity to develop an understanding of prices, make their own choices, and take another meaningful step toward greater participation in society.

For children with autism, being able to shop independently is more than simply learning a practical skill. It can be a way to build confidence and better understand the world around them.

For those accompanying them, these experiences also provide an opportunity to observe their interests and habits more closely, offering guidance when needed while allowing each child to move forward at their own pace.

Later, everyone worked together to make seaweed rice rolls. From preparing the ingredients to making the rolls by hand, the children and team members collaborated, communicated, and enjoyed the process together.

From the supermarket to the dining table, these ordinary scenes took on a special meaning because everyone participated together.

They reminded us that companionship does not always require extraordinary gestures. More often, it means giving children the time, patience, and space to participate in their own way.

And this was another important lesson we took away from the journey: while accompanying these children, we are also learning how to better understand, respect, and respond to their individual needs.

• Annual Charity Gathering: Witnessing Growth Together

During our time in Yanji, Flyking also participated in the Aiman Tianxia Foundation’s annual charity gathering, where we connected with the foundation, charity partners, and other participants to share experiences and reflections from the journey.

At the gathering, Flyking donated RMB 50,000 to the Aiman Tianxia Foundation as a tangible expression of our continued care and support for children with autism and Down syndrome.

Together, we hope to create more opportunities for these children to engage with society, express themselves, and have their abilities recognized.”

At the event, children from the Star Homes also presented a series of wonderful performances.

As the drums sounded and the melodies filled the room, their focused and passionate performances became some of the most heartwarming moments of the day.

They may express themselves differently, but when the music began and the applause followed, the distance between us seemed to disappear.

On stage were children bravely sharing their talents. In the audience were parents, teachers, and charity partners who have accompanied them throughout their growth.

Behind every performance were countless moments of practice, patience, and persistence.

Every opportunity to step onto the stage and every attempt they made represented a small but meaningful step forward—and every step deserves to be seen, remembered, and valued.

• Because We See, We Choose to Walk Together

From Dunhua to Hunchun and then Yanji, we brought supplies, but we also took away much more.

We saw the dedication behind the foundation’s daily work. We saw the challenges faced by parents as they accompany their children through every stage of growth. And we saw the concentration, courage, and progress reflected in the children’s every attempt.

This charity journey was a visit, but also an opportunity to understand more deeply.

It was a donation, but also an exchange centered on understanding, respect, and companionship.
